School Rules

These rules support a safe, disciplined and caring environment at Nuwe Republiek Primary School. Every learner is expected to know and follow them at all times: on the school grounds, when wearing the school uniform and when representing the school. Ignorance of the school rules is not accepted as an excuse.

General

General Principles

Learners are expected at all times to behave in a courteous and considerate manner towards other learners, the Representative Council of Learners (RCL), all staff and visitors to the school.

  • Show respect for the rights, dignity and property of others at all times.
  • Uphold the good name of the school in class, on the school grounds, in public and online.
  • Do not say or do anything that may discredit yourself, another learner or the school.
  • No learner may cause physical or emotional harm, threaten, bully or intimidate others.
  • The school will contact parents / guardians when behaviour is a concern and expects co-operation to correct the problem.

Attendance

School And Class Attendance

Regular attendance is a joint responsibility of parents / guardians, learners, educators and the School Governing Body.

  • All learners must attend school regularly and punctually.
  • Arrive before the official starting time so that registers can be completed.
  • Absence from a class without the permission of the register or subject teacher is not allowed.
  • Any absence must be covered by a written note from a parent / guardian.
  • Absence of three (3) or more consecutive days, or from any formal test or examination, must be supported by a valid medical certificate.
  • No learner may leave the school during school hours without an exit note and permission from the Principal, Deputy Principal or Grade Head.
  • Truancy is strictly prohibited. All learners must attend assembly for its full duration.

Uniform

School Uniform And Appearance

Learners are expected to wear the official school uniform and appear neat and tidy at all times.

  • No additions to the uniform that are not in accordance with school regulations are allowed.
  • Jewellery and accessories are restricted to simple, approved items only; no visible tattoos, coloured contact lenses or rhinestones.
  • No colouring of hair or “exotic” hairstyles is allowed.
  • Fingernails must be short and clean; no nail polish or artificial nails.
  • On civvies or special days, clothing must still be neat, modest and appropriate for a school environment.
  • Only learners with approved applications may deviate from the uniform for religious or cultural reasons.

Property

Valuables, Personal Belongings And School Grounds

The school grounds and buildings are a shared space that must remain safe, clean and respected by all learners.

  • The school will not be held responsible for theft of or damage to personal belongings on school premises.
  • Learners should avoid bringing valuables, large sums of money, cell phones, game consoles or similar devices.
  • Items kept in breach of these rules may be confiscated and returned at the end of the day or to a parent / guardian.
  • All litter must be placed in bins; keep classrooms, corridors and grounds neat and clean.
  • Wilful damage, vandalism or neglect of school property is prohibited and may lead to disciplinary and financial consequences.
  • Theft of school or private property is a serious offence.

Conduct

General Rules And Conduct

Behaviour in class and on the school grounds must support learning, mutual respect and the academic programme of the school.

  • Loitering and playing in corridors, stairwells and toilets is forbidden.
  • Cheating in class work, homework, projects, tests or examinations is strictly forbidden.
  • Copying or allowing another learner to copy work is not allowed.
  • Disruptive, unruly, rude or offensive behaviour will not be tolerated.
  • Hand in all tasks, projects and assignments on time; meeting deadlines is each learner’s responsibility.
  • Learners who miss assessments without a valid medical certificate may receive “0” for that task.
  • Every learner must respect the beliefs, culture, dignity, privacy and rights of others; pejorative or racist language is prohibited.

Public & Transport

Public Places, Transport And Activities

The Code of Conduct applies in public, on transport and at all school functions, tours and sports events.

  • No dangerous objects or illegal drugs may be brought onto or used on school property.
  • The carrying and / or smoking of cigarettes, vapes or similar products is prohibited.
  • Alcohol and illegal substances are not permitted on the premises or during any school activity.
  • Behaviour on buses, taxis or private transport must be safe, respectful and orderly.
  • Learners must follow the instructions of teachers and coaches at all times during outings and fixtures.
  • Any misconduct away from the school that brings the school into disrepute may lead to disciplinary action.
