What this Code does

Summary view

The Code of Conduct sets out the rules, behaviour and discipline system that keep Nuwe Republiek Primary School safe, respectful and focused on learning.

  • Protects the rights and safety of learners, staff and parents.
  • Explains how learners must behave on school property and school activities.
  • Describes the discipline ladder (Grades 1–4) and possible sanctions.
  • Shows how learner and parent commitments are recorded in writing.
Where it applies

On and off the school grounds

  • All learners officially enrolled at Nuwe Republiek Primary School.
  • Classrooms, passages, fields, playgrounds, hall and offices.
  • All school activities, tours, camps, sport practices and matches.
  • Transport to and from school and activities when in uniform.
  • Public places where learners are clearly identified with the school.
Everyday expectations

How learners should act

Attendance & punctuality
  • Be at school and in class on time.
  • Absence must be explained in writing by a parent or guardian.
  • Medical certificates are needed for longer absences or missed exams.
  • No leaving school without permission.
Uniform & appearance
  • Wear the full, correct school and sport uniform.
  • Hair, nails and grooming must be neat and conservative.
  • No jewellery, visible tattoos or extreme hairstyles.
  • Approved cultural or religious items are recorded with the school.
Respect & behaviour
  • Address staff and other learners politely.
  • No bullying, threats, racism or harassment.
  • Do not disrupt lessons or prevent others from learning.
  • Look after school property and report damage.
Safety & substances
  • No weapons or dangerous objects on school property.
  • No alcohol, smoking, vaping or illegal drugs at school or on activities.
  • No hitchhiking in school uniform or sports kit.
  • Follow safety rules during practices, matches and outings.
Personal items

Valuables and cell phones

  • Learners should avoid bringing valuables or large sums of money to school.
  • The school cannot accept responsibility for lost or damaged personal items.
  • Cell phones, if allowed, must be switched off and stored as required by school rules.
  • Money for school fees must be paid at the office before school starts.

Learner commitment

Every learner and parent signs a commitment form to confirm that they have read and understand this Code.

  • Follow instructions from staff members the first time they are given.
  • Treat all people at school with dignity and respect.
  • Protect school property and report damage or unsafe behaviour.
  • Attend school regularly and submit honest, independent work.
  • Speak up if rights are violated or bullying is taking place.
The signed commitment form is kept on the learner’s file as part of the official school record.
